At WIBC last weekend we played a piece called Via Crucis. It’s based on the 14 stations of the cross. It’s a neat piece with some cool effects and a few very beautiful moments, but to me it feels a little disjointed. I was sitting next to our Tuba Player during the band that played before us. They started up a quiet, slow little number when the Tuba player leaned over to me and...

Thanksgiving at Home
I just moved to my own apartment, but I went to my parent’s house for Thanksgiving. We talked about how things are going at the new apartment, and some of the minor problems, like how the over-the-door shoe holder I got doesn’t let my bedroom door close. My mom came into the kitchen to talk to me and said, “I think I’ve found a viable solution to your problem in your...

The previous owner of the coffeeshop I work at took out subscriptions to pretty much every magazine you can think of. We have your standards like Sports Illustrated, the Oprah magazine, Glamour, and Time. We probably don’t need a subscription to Wired, but I do enjoy that one. For a while the magazine thing was just an amusing quirk, until a friend informed me that the lastest edition of...

I was taking orders the other day at work. One of the customers was a big guy with a loud voice that sounded kind of like a Southern Baptist preacher. I was trying to move him through the line, but he was ordering a drink that wasn't on the menu. After a bit of time deciphering what he wanted, I concluded that it was just house coffee over ice with heavy whipping cream instead of half and half. I gave him a cup with ice, instructed him to get the coffee from the buffet, and then come back and I'd add the whipping cream. When he came back, he said
Customer: I like the way you take charge of the situation.
Sharayah: Umm, thanks.
He came back the next day, and was pleased to see me behind the counter.
Customer: Oh, good, you're here! I was hoping I'd see you today. I just, I feel like I've known you my whole life!
Sharayah: o_O

Today a security camera appeared in the kitchen at work. Apparently my boss doesn’t trust his employees. Frosted Mint Latte.

middle-class white boys are valuable
I’m working off the assumption that this is snark. And if that’s the case, I’d just like to remind you that there is a lot more that makes up you than just being a middle-class white boy. You have a way of looking at things that is very different from...

I’ve had a hard time coming up with things to write lately. I want to keep writing because I want to keep getting better at writing. I just don’t feel like I have a lot to share. Yesterday I was reading in Luke 7 about the centurion whose slave was deathly ill. He sent for Jesus to come heal his slave. Before Jesus even reached his house, the centurion sent friends to meet Jesus...

This has got to be one of the best character descriptions I have ever read.
