ISTJ
I’ve seen a few of these popping up on my dashboard, and thought I’d get in on the action. I’ve found Meyers-Briggs to be the most accurate personality test I’ve ever taken, so this description is pretty spot-on.
ISTJ-The Guardian-Inspector
ISTJs are often called inspectors. They have a keen sense of right and wrong, especially in their area of interest and/or...

st-rita replied to your post: Provision and Unemployment
I know exactly what you mean about not getting things done when you’re not generally busy. My solution: a more structured schedule of doing fun things with me & Emily that don’t cost money! :D
I just talked to Emily this morning about doing something next week cause her schedule’s a little lighter. I looked up free things to...

Provision and Unemployment
So, I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I’m in the middle of job hunting, and it’s incredibly discouraging. Not just financially either. I’ve sent out 30 applications so far, had a handful of interviews, and no job yet. Sometimes I feel like every resume I submit is just setting myself up for another rejection. As one who doesn’t like to be vulnerable,...

J. K. Rowling's Announcement →
^ This is a link (My theme makes links very inconspicuous.)
I’m one of those kids that wasn’t allowed to read Harry Potter for ‘religious reasons’ growing up. (But Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, and Wheel of Time were all ok. I don’t understand it either.) But last summer I started covertly listening to the audio books on youtube (narrated by Stephen...

Today, one of my postcrossing cards arrived in Brazil, and this was the message I got in return.
“Sharayah thanks for the card, I was extremely happy when I received. Good luck with your studies on music and one day hope to hear your music on the Internet; D. Here in Brazil the summer month is January, but here we have sunny beaches all year round as in Mexico. Thank you for “Do not...

Can of worms. Do a song for each follower. Challenge accepted?
Oh jeez. I dunno if I can do that. Is this retroactive? I can only upload a song a day. The reason I did that one is because pretty much his whole blog is related to Switchfoot, which is my [2nd] favorite band.

Strike the Ground With Excellence
2 Kings 13:14-19
At first read, this story doesn’t seem fair. Elisha never said how many times to strike the ground. I probably only would have once because that’s what the instructions sounded like, and I would have wanted to follow them exactly.
If I were to take anything from this passage, it would be ‘Don’t do things half-assed’. Which is difficult. I...

Trust and Paradox
1 Kings 17:8-16
The amount of trust in this story is incredible to me. Elijah’s request of the widow is completely audacious. Widows in ancient Israel typically had no way of caring for themselves without relying on family members. Elijah did what God told him to do and asked the widow for food, but he probably felt like an ass to ask so much of her. And the widow, to potentially give...

Does Trust in God Pay Off?
2 Chronicles 25
In verses 8-9, King Amaziah’s choice to obey God doesn’t seem smart. Not only does he turn away 100,000 warriors, but he forfeits 100 talents. ”The Lord is able to give you much more than this.” Do I really believe this? How often are my actions evidence of this belief? All too often, obeying God doesn’t appear to be the smart choice. It takes...

Have I mentioned recently that I love you? :) Adding this to my iomoio (I still feel silly typing that out) shopping cart RIGHT NOW.
It’s even more fun to try to say out loud! And I love you too!
PS. You should listen to Poison and Wine because it’s pretty incredible. :)

Psalm 86
A David Psalm
1-7 Bend an ear, God; answer me. I’m one miserable wretch! Keep me safe—haven’t I lived a good life? Help your servant—I’m depending on you! You’re my God; have mercy on me. I count on you from morning to night. Give your servant a happy life; I put myself in your hands! You’re well-known as good and forgiving, ...

My bass clarinet student, the one who played the second Brahms clarinet sonata, told me that she has a bust of Brahms that she really wanted to set on the piano during her performance at solo/ensemble contest but decided it was not such a good idea.
This girl will grow up to be such a wonderful music nerd.
Edit-She kinda reminds me of Schroeder from Peanuts.

Prayers for Japan from Around the World
This blog post is from the World Vision website. I thought it was pretty incredible.
Three months ago on Saturday, a deadly earthquake and ensuing tsunami in Japan killed more than 14,700 people, leaving the country’s northeastern coastline devastated. Our colleagues in Japan have spent the weeks and months following the disaster organizing and implementing a full response plan, supported by...

Isaiah 32:9-15
Complacent women, rise up and get to work. Without you, the vineyards become briar patches, the kingdom is deserted, and the countryside becomes a wasteland. But when the Spirit of God is poured out, the wilderness becomes a fruitful field. Women, your work is necessary to sustain life, but it can only be accomplished by the power of God. So stop being complacent; stop doing...

Undercover Nun: Happy birthday, Christemdom! →
undercovernun:
Today is the feast of the Pentecost, when we celebrate the Holy Spirit giving us a dramatic entrance. Now we know that, even with Jesus dead, resurrected and ascended into heaven, God continues to be with us. What we don’t always know — or get to ask for, for that matter — is where and how God is among us. Do you think Peter and the other disciples would have chosen the...

Chaconne
I’m falling
I tried to avoid it
My calling, my plans
My life
I thought I knew what you wanted
I thought I knew where I was going
Clinging to my calling
My melody
Yet by claiming it I substitute my will for your own
I knew the sound of my melody
But you’ve changed it
Inverted
Distorted
And sometimes lost or buried in the passacaglia that surrounds me
I’ve lost the structure
My foundation...

Gentleman 1: How's the research going?
Gentleman 2 (a biologist): Oh, you know, making graphs and trying to understand nature. I don't think anyone can understand nature. You know, you put water on a plant and it grows, but beyond that it gets really complicated.
I guess what I appreciate is that Gentleman 2 really did understand nature, he was just expressing his profound wonder for it. And I think it's awesome when science creates more questions than it answers because I think mystery and wonder are essential to life.

Servabo Fidem: Prayer of Thomas Merton →
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will...
