Later on Martin Luther was called a Hussite. And he said, ‘I’m not a Hussite; Hus was a heretic.’ And then he read Hus’s work. And said, ‘Oh…shoot’. Actually, he probably said, ‘scheisse ’. Luther never called a spade a spade, he called it a damn shovel. Luther was a bit of a potty mouth.
Hermeneutics Professor
Quotes from my Hebrew professor:
“The Hebrews used to have case endings, but they lost them and never found them again. They do that with a lot of things. Like the ark of the covenant.”
“Strong verbs follow the pattern, weak verbs…stuff happens. Strong verbs: fun, weak verbs: no fun. We like the verb ‘qatal’ because it’s fun and has no exceptions…and it means ‘to kill’.”
When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed.
But when we are silent, we are still afraid.
So it is better to speak.
But when we are silent, we are still afraid.
So it is better to speak.
Audre Lorde
Quote taken from this blog where my friend and former roommate writes about what it means to be a woman. Also, one of her regular tags is ‘bad ass women’, and I think that’s wonderful.
If I had to sum up this first year teaching in a sentence, it would be this one taped to the shelf in my mentor’s office.
That Christ is the truth does not mean that there are no truths to be found anywhere outside of Him, but it does mean that all such truths a fragmentary and broken unless they become integrated in Him as the center.
