Ok, music people, I need help…
(This means you, Rita and Mollie!) :)
I’m trying to analyze chords for a piece with my band. I’ve got:
I V7 vi bV(half diminished) I
WHAT THE CRAP IS THE FLAT FIVE HALF DIMINISHED?! Or in solfege: se la do mi.
Am I even naming it right?
It’s an important chord because there’s a fermata on it, but I can’t figure out functionally what it’s doing there.
For reference it’s in this piece at 3:07. The chords change on 1 and 3. Key is Eb.
Edit: I think it’s a vii half diminished of V…maybe…

Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson
This song has a special spot in my heart because my middle school band used to play it every year.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, partially because of the music associated with it. Click the link for music!

“Yawny At The Apocalypse” by Andrew Bird from Armchair Apocrypha
“Saints” by Abel from Lesser Men
There was a time when I believed everything you told me
But I was only an infant weaned on grace and fed his fill of mercy
You wouldn’t know me if you saw me now
Cause all I want is love, and my heart’s repeating
If only we had eyes to see You with
If only we had ears to hear
If only we could be the children of love
There was a time when I would see visions of Your glory in every story
A hero of the faith, of Your name, with focus like a lion
But now I’m dying to see Your face
Because our love is a golden ring meant to keep each other out
I want Your love, that simple thing that ties my words to my mouth
