“Damn, It Feels Good To Be a Gangsta” by the Geto Boys from the Office Space Soundtrack

Track 9 in my personal soundtrack.  This is the explicit version, so if it’s offensive to you, don’t click play.

What I like is the Office Space juxtaposition of gangsta and and “office” culture.

“Everybody Loves Me” by Onerepublic from Waking Up

Track 8 in my personal soundtrack.

I picked this song because the day is a lot easier to face when you choose to believe everybody loves you.  And I love the sarcasm.

Work for the Working Man by Bon Jovi from The Circle

Track 7 in my soundtrack.

I picked this one to help me keep perspective on why I get up every morning and to remind me to look out for others.

Dark Horses by Switchfoot from Vice Verses

This is the 6th track on my personal soundtrack.  (Read this post by Jon Acuff if you missed what I’m talking about.  The song in it is pretty cool too!)

I chose it to remind me that when the odds are against me, I’m enough of a fighter to get through it.

I’ve made my mistakes
I’ve seen my heart cave in
I’ve got my scars
I’ve been to hell and back again

Born for the blue skies
We’ll survive the rain
Born for the sunrise
We’ll survive the pain

We’re singing…
Hey, You can’t count us out
We’ve been running up against the crowd
Yeah, we are the Dark Horses
We’re singing…
Hey! It’s not over now
We’ve been down but we’ve never been out
Yeah, we are the Dark Horses

We found a way out
The city takes everything it can
But outside the crowds
I can feel my lungs again

We’re singing…
Hey, You can’t count us out
We’ve been running up against the crowd
Yeah, we are the Dark Horses
We’re singing…
Hey! It’s not over now
We’ve been down but we’ve never been out
Yeah, we are the Dark Horses

We don’t care what they say
We know we’ll find a way
Yeah, we are the Dark Horses

Keep running with the Dark Horses
Hope makes the blood change courses
Keep running with the Dark Horses
Stand up for the Dark Horses
Keep running with the Dark Horses
Hope makes the blood change courses

Smellin’ Coffee by Chris Rice from Short Term Memories

Track 2 of my personal soundtrack.  No, I didn’t forget how to count, I just discovered this song after the first 4 tracks were published and I’m a little obsessive about making playlists flow, so this song has to be track 2.  :)  Besides, my normal morning routine is “wake on up from your slumber” and then “smellin’ coffee”  (and then the Final Countdown?…no, not so much…)

Last thing I remember sayin’ bye to yesterday
Glad to see it over, pullin’ covers over my head
But what were You doin’ while I dreamt the night away
‘Cause I can tell that somethin’s different and
My eyes ain’t even open yet
I’m smellin’ coffee, birds are singin’ just outside
Here comes Your mercy streamin’ in with the morning light
My heart is racin’, wakin’ up to Your smile

It’s a good mornin’, good mornin’
I remember readin’ You’re the God who never sleeps
And while I’ve been dreamin’ You’ve been singin’ over me, yeah
Singin’ about my freedom, wakin’ me up to hear Your song
Now I can’t dance hard enough
‘Cause yesterday is gone, gone, gone!
I’m smellin’ coffee, birds are singin’ just outside
Here comes Your mercy streamin’ in with the morning light

My heart is racin’, wakin’ up to Your smile
It’s a good mornin’, good mornin’
Every little breath, every heartbeat
Is a gift of love that You give to me
You keep givin’ even when I’m asleep
‘Cause I know You never stop watchin’ over me
I wake up, my past is gone
‘Cause Your mercy’s new with the mornin’ sun
I’m forgiven, I’m free, it’s a brand new day
‘Cause Your faithfulness is the greatest, hey!
I’m smellin’ coffee, birds are singin’ just outside
Here comes Your mercy streamin’ in with the morning light
My heart is racin’, wakin’ up to Your smile
It’s a good mornin’, good mornin’
